EU deplores attack on Vucic at Srebrenica

Brussels, 13/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 11 July, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini deplored the fact that stones were thrown in an attack on Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic the same day at the ceremony commemorating 20 years since the Srebrenica massacre.

“The fact that Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, who took the historical decision to come to the 20th anniversary commemoration of the genocide at Srebrenica, was forced to leave today goes against the spirit of this day of remembrance. It shows that we all need to redouble our efforts to overcome hatred and pursue reconciliation across the whole Western Balkans region and beyond”, Mogherini stated in a press release. She called for a “full investigation” into the incident by the authorities of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Before the incident, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker had hailed Vucic's “forward-looking approach” in attending the ceremony - an attitude which, Juncker said, is required for the countries of the region in order to move ahead on their path to European Union accession.
