Brussels, 29/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 26 June, EU Special Representative for Kosovo Samuel Zbogar said he was “disappointed” by the outcome of the session in the Assembly of Kosovo the same day, which did not approve the constitutional amendment that would have enabled the establishment of a special court to investigate war crimes.
“The EU has taken note of the negative vote on the constitutional amendments which should have enabled the establishment of the Kosovo Specialist Chamber and Specialist Prosecutor's Office”, Zbogar stated in a press release. “Kosovo has no alternative but to deal with the serious allegations from the Council of Europe report” (the 2011 Marty report), he added (see EUROPE 11065). This report focuses on allegations of trafficking the organs of 500 Serbian and Roma prisoners during the war.
Zbogar stated that the EU would continue to work with the Kosovo institutions to uphold the commitments stemming from the 2014 exchange of letters on this subject between the Kosovan president, Atifete Jahjaga, and the EU high representative at that time, Catherine Ashton. (Camille-Cerise Gessant)
