Brussels, 18/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - During the evening of Wednesday 17 June, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated that Serbian and Kosovan representatives had met in Brussels that day - as part of the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue - to discuss the freedom of movement and a way forward regarding the bridge in Mitrovica.
Mogherini's spokesperson added that Samuel Zbogar, the EU special representative and chairman of the working group on the Mitrovica bridge issue (the bridge linking the north and the south of Mitrovica over the River Ibar) presented both parties with the technical assessment recently undertaken and with suggestions on the way forward. Mogherini's spokesperson gave no further details, however. Kosovan Serbs have set a “peace park” up in the middle of the bridge - although the Kosovars want the park to be removed because it prevents free movement between the two parts of the city.
The participants in the meeting agreed to meet again on Monday 22 June to discuss the elements of an agreement that could provide for the revival of the bridge in the future, the spokesperson stated.
Working groups on other issues related to implementation of agreements concluded as part of the dialogue for the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina (such as energy, telecoms, and the association/community of Serbian local authorities) also continued their work this week, the spokesperson said.
The prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vucic and Isa Mustafa, are due to meet in Brussels on Tuesday 23 June (see EUROPE 11336). (Camille-Cerise Gessant)
