Slovakia to contribute €400 million to Juncker Plan

Brussels, 15/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 15 June, the Slovakian government announced that two Slovakian investment banks will contribute €400 million to the Juncker Investment Plan that is expected to attract €315 billion of new investment over three years.

The contribution will come via Slovenský Investièný Holding and Slovenská Záruèná a Rozvojová Banka, Slovakia's National Promotional Banks. It comes on top of the contributions already announced by six other member states via their investment banks, namely €8 billion from Poland, €8 bn from Germany, €1.5 bn from Spain, €8 billion from France, €8 bn from Italy and €80 million from Luxembourg.

Talks about contributions from countries outside the EU. The European Commission confirmed that it “has been contacted by stakeholders including from China but no concrete figures at this stage. About contributions to the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), explained a European Commission spokesperson, adding that the talks were ongoing.

The European institutions are fine-tuning the establishment of EFSI, the financial arm of the Investment Plan. The EFSI will have a public guarantee of €21 bn (€16 bn from the EU budget and €5 billion from the EIB) and will cover any initial financial losses from projects selected for EFSI backing.
