11/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU criticises Luxor attack. On Wednesday 10 June, the European Union criticised the attack by at least three men at the historic site of Karnak in Luxor (southern Egypt), which is much frequented by tourists. The attack left five people injured, including two police officers. “This kind of violence targeting security and police, but also civilians and tourism, aims at undermining Egypt's stability and economic development”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. “We must stand united in our common fight against terrorism”, the spokesperson added, saying that the EU will keep supporting Egypt's efforts to tackle violent extremism and prevent new attacks. Although Egypt has been the scene of almost daily violence since the overthrow of President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013, the attacks usually target security forces and not tourists. (CG)
