04/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU warns against destabilisation. On Wednesday 3 June, the European Union said it was concerned about the political situation in the Kingdom of Lesotho, a small state enclaved in South Africa and recently marked by “a deterioration in the security climate and renewed tensions and divisions, which risk undermining progress made”, according the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS). “Citizens need continued reassurance that the rule of law and accountability will be consistently applied and that reconciliation efforts will be pursued”, the spokesperson added, giving assurances that the EU “is committed to continue supporting specific efforts in this regard”. The EU states that under the coalition agreement for stability and reform, and under the recommendations of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the coalition government, formed after the early parliamentary elections of March 2015, must urgently move forward with legal, institutional and security sector reform.
