Brussels, 01/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - The Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, has promised to kick up a huge fuss at European level after the summer break, in order to finish with economic austerity policies.
“The idea that the European policy is still based on austerity and rigour is unacceptable. From September, once this first round of reforms are finalised, I can assure you that Italy will be making some noise in Brussels, with unimaginable strength and determination”, the Italian leader said in Trento on Saturday 30 May, speaking alongside the French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls (our translation).
Renzi, who argues that his country is no longer the sick man of Europe, explained that “the priority of priorities (was) investment” to support growth and youth employment, or populist movements will gain more ground in Europe, he warned. (Mathieu Bion)
