Brussels, 01/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU/Norway energy cooperation was at the heart of the visit by the European Commissioner for Energy and Climate Affairs, Miguel Arias Cañete, to Oslo on Monday 1 June.
As we went to press, Canete was taking part in a ministerial session on the EU/Norway energy dialogue with the Norwegian Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Tord Lien. Earlier on, Cañete visited the Norwegian Parliament's Energy and Environment Committee and met the Norwegian Minister for the European Economic Area and European Affairs, Vidar Helgesen.
Canete's visit to Oslo is expected to continue on Tuesday 2 June, with a visit to a gas field, Troll offshore installations and the Sima hydroelectric plant.
Norway is one of the main suppliers of gas and oil to the EU: in 2014 it supplied more than 30% of gas imports and more than 10% of its oil imports. In the fourth quarter of 2014, EU gas imports from Norway clearly outperformed those from Russia and flows from Norway increased to a record level of 31.3 billion m3. (Emmanuel Hagry)
