Brussels, 26/05/2015 (Agence Europe) -The Desertec Foundation announced in a press release on Tuesday 26 May the implementation of its long-delayed projects to exploit solar power resources in the southern Mediterranean. It says that these projects will benefit the whole of the EUMENA (Europe, Middle East and North Africa) region. Basing its assertion on the positive conclusions of the Desertec Industrial Initiatives (DII), the business consortium linked to it before it split just under two years ago, it states that “we are now entering the execution phase”.
The foundation said that this new phase will help “turn our common vision into reality. People are inspired and fascinated of the energy potential of deserts. The people of the MENA region have started more than 70 renewable energy projects”.
It proposed the example of Morocco which “is constructing the biggest solar thermal power plant of the world, which does not only produce clean energy day and night, but, according to Germanwatch, also creates more than thousands local jobs”. (Fathi B'Chir)
