Brussels, 06/05/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 5 May, the EEAS announced that the EU political director Helga Schmid and Iranian deputy negotiators Abbas Araghchi and Madjid Takht Ravanchi will resume their work in Vienna on 12 May on drafting the main text of a joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear programme (based on the key understandings reached on 2 April in Lausanne - see EUROPE 11289). Schmid, Araghchi and Ravanchi will then be joined by the political directors of the E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom and China, United States, Russia) on Friday 15 May.
Work on the main text started last week in New York with Schmid, Araghchi and Ravanchi. The discussions began on 30 April and Schmid returned to Brussels on Tuesday 5 May, according to a European source. Alongside this, experts have also been continuing their work.
While awaiting the work to resume, technical experts will continue their work on drafting the annexes to the main text.
“Iran deal is moving forward. Hard work and many brackets remain”, chief Iranian negotiator Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted. (Camille-Cerise Gessant)
