With 5,933 tonnes, Danish operators have lifted their country to the top of the table of member states which have applied for European private storage aid for pigmeat, it was revealed in the 12 March review released by the European Commission on Monday 16 March. Hard on Denmark's heels is Poland, with 5,315 tonnes. Thereafter come Germany (2,114 tonnes), the Netherlands (1,148 tonnes) and France (1,135 tonnes). In all, European operators have submitted requests for the storage of 20,761 tonnes of pigmeat. The majority of requests relate to boned leg and shoulder (50.5%). Then come boneless pork belly (13.8%), loin (12.1%) and hams (9.8%). (LC)
