13/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - Conflict in its fifth year On Friday 13 March, the Syrian conflict entered its fifth year - “a tragic anniversary”, which was marked by European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides by calling on international donors to prove their generosity at the donors' conference in Kuwait at the end of March. “The humanitarian situation in Syria is growing worse by the day. 12.2 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance in the country - nearly a third more than a year ago!” Stylianides deplored. Speaking about “the worsening health situation” and over 3.8 million refugees, he believes that the conference on the crisis in Syria will be “a test for the international community”. The EU, which has thus far mobilised €3.5 billion, “will assume its responsibilities”, Stylianides assured. (Aminata Niang)
