Brussels, 06/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 6 March, the European Commission announced an additional donation of over €2 million from the EU to the WTO Doha Development Agenda Global Trust Fund (DDAGTF) and a further €100,000 for evaluating the fund.
The DDAGTF was created in 2002 to receive the extra-budgetary contributions from the WTO member countries in order to finance implementation of the annual technical assistance plans to support the active participation of developing countries and the least developed countries (LDCs) in the Doha round negotiations. The DDAGTF finances nearly 280 activities per year - largely tailor-made training programmes delivered at the regional and national levels, covering all areas linked to trade (including trade facilitation, agriculture and services).
“With these welcome donations, the European Union has again demonstrated its longstanding commitment to helping developing countries reap the benefits of trade and better integrate into the global economy”, said WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo.
The EU has donated €10.6 million in total to the DDAGTF since 2003. (Emmanuel Hagry)
