Immigration - Switzerland to join EUROSUR system

Brussels, 02/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - Switzerland is to join the new European border monitoring system, EUROSUR. On Monday 2 March, the country agreed to adopt the EU regulation aiming to save lives among those who put themselves into danger to reach European shores.

EUROSUR brings in an operational surveillance of the external land and sea borders of the signatory states of the Schengen agreement. Its regulation provides for an exchange of information between these countries and the European agency for the management and operational cooperation on the external borders (Frontex). As Switzerland does not have an external border in the sense of EUROSUR, it will receive information in the form of situation updates, but will not supply any. These updates will serve to exchange data on incidents and help to locate vessels, amongst other things. (Lionel Changeur)
