New trilateral meeting on gas on 2 March

Brussels, 27/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 27 February, Russia's minister for energy, Alexander Novak, confirmed that he would participate in a new Russia-Ukraine-EU trilateral meeting, in Brussels on Monday 2 March, to discuss gas deliveries to Ukraine. Novak was invited to attend by European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic.

“We will above all speak about the situation concerning the deliveries to Ukraine and the transit of gas to European consumers”, Novak said, as quoted by several media.

Ukraine confirmed on Thursday that it would participate. It will be represented by its new minister for energy, Volodymyr Demchyshyn.

The Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute is far from being settled as the two countries hit a hitch again this week (see EUROPE 11261) on implementing the winter package for the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine - a package that was tied up under EU mediation at the end of October 2014. (Emmanuel Hagry)
