Two MEDIA-backed films win Cesar and Oscar awards

Brussels, 23/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - The Polish film Ida, which was backed financially by the MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe, won the Oscar for best foreign film at the awards ceremony in Hollywood in the night of 22 and 23 February.

Two days earlier, the film Timbuktu, also supported by MEDIA, won no fewer than seven Cesars, including that of best film, in Paris, France.

Ida received €650,000 in European funding and Timbuktu €540,000. Commission Vice-President with responsibility for the Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip and Digital Economy Commissioner Günther Oettinger said: “These prestigious awards show the talent of our film makers and how EU support can help them thrive and reach a large audience. We are committed to further supporting creative industries and creating the right conditions for them to succeed in the digital era”. (Isabelle Lamberty)
