Brussels, 23/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 20 February, the European Union strongly condemned the murderous terrorist attack carried out the same day by the Islamist group al-Shabaab in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
“The attack carried out (…) by al-Shabaab on the Central Hotel in Mogadishu, which also targeted government ministers and members of parliament, is an act of terrorism by those who want to undermine progress towards a stable and secure Somalia. We won't let them succeed”, said the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) in a statement published on Friday evening.
Offering its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, and sending its best wishes for a fast recovery to those who were wounded, the EU gives assurances that it “will continue supporting the efforts of Somali Federal institutions aimed at establishing a secure and safe environment” - an essential prerequisite for Somalia's recovery from decades of conflict, the statement says.
