Brussels, 02/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for Regional Development, Corina Cretu, is pleased to see that macro-regional strategies have proved popular in Europe. She believes that the results from the Danube basin, Baltic Sea and the Adriatic-Ionian have been convincing. In a contribution posted on her blog on Saturday 31 January, she said that she supported this “pioneering” approach to cooperation between the European regions. She asserted that these macro-regional strategies are a “logical” way of resolving common issues, which cannot be resolved by each region acting alone. The Commissioner also confirmed that her services were currently working towards the setting up of a macro-regional strategy for the Alps. The proposal for a macro-strategy, bringing together the alpine regions of Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, Lichtenstein and Switzerland is expected to be adopted by the end of this year (see EUROPE 11208).
