Brussels, 23/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - The negotiations between the Council of the EU and the European Parliament on reform of the EURES network (the European employment services network) should not pose any great difficulty, Latvian Social Affairs Minister Uldis Augulis said on Wednesday 21 January.
Augulis was very confident when speaking at an audition before the European Parliament employment and social affairs committee in Brussels. He said that inter-institutional talks on EURES, a virtual shop window for the European labour market, which effectively operates through a website, should be simple as no particular problems exist between the position of the Council and that of the draft report still being discussed in the Parliamentary committee. The preconditions for adopting a text have already been met, he said. The only point which will fuel discussion is the inclusion in the network of short-term employment in all sectors. Concerns relating to the taxation and risks of abuse in this kind of employment will be discussed, he said. (JK)
