Brussels, 15/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of a further trialogue which could be decisive for the anti-money-laundering directive, the international organisation ONE expressed concern, on Monday 15 December, at its potential outcome. “The Council is trying to dilute the Parliament's call for public disclosure of who is hiding behind anonymous companies and trusts”, ONE states in a press release.
When it adopted its position in March of this year, the EP provided for the introduction of public central registers which would include information on the owners of companies and trusts (EUROPE 11037). Tamira Gunzburg, Brussels director of the ONE Campaign, said that this opportunity must not be allowed to slip by, against the backdrop of the LuxLeaks scandal. ONE stresses that the number of member states in favour of this register has quadrupled in the last few months, yet “in an effort to land a deal before the end of its Presidency, the Italian Presidency is putting the Parliament under pressure to accept a diluted deal”.
