15/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - Starting Grants. Around 300 scientists have been selected to receive grants of up to €2 million, as part of the “Starting Grants” initiative financed by the Horizon 2020 project. No less than €485 million will be paid to support the new generation of scientists in Europe and projects that range from electronic textiles, detection of bacteria, 'toxic expertise' in the petrochemical industry and combatting cancer. Grants will be awarded to researchers from 38 different nationalities, working in 180 different European institutes. They are mainly from Germany (70 grants) but also from the United Kingdom (55), France (43) and the Netherlands (34). Around 40 different grants were also awarded to non-European scientists who were already mainly working in the EU. (MD)
