Brussels, 21/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission will present another two actions for the Smart Transport System (STS) by the end of the year, in compliance with the directive and action plan on this subject. In a report published on Tuesday 21 October, the European Commission examined progress in this area. So far, five of the twenty priority actions planned have been completed, (eCall, STS for roads, EU wide multimodal travel information services, STS urban platform etc.), others have been delayed, amended or suspended. Although the Commission believes that the work has advanced, it regrets the lack of enthusiasm from stakeholders in certain cases. It is planning to carry out two priority actions by the end of the year on EU wide real-time traffic information and EU-wide multimodal travel information services. The European Commissioner for Transport, Siim Kallas, believes that “It is time to put the user at the centre of our transport policies. This goes not only through new and modernised infrastructure, but also through better information on the mobility choices and better integration of the different transport modes”. (MD)
