Brussels, 13/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - The most commonly used pesticide, glyphosate, not only has a significant effect on the hormonal system of mammals, but can also affect bee behaviour and this is shown by the results of a recent study, Testbiotech states in a report published on Friday 10 October. This report, entitled “Testbiotech comment on the German Renewal Assessment Report”, states that the risks of this herbicide have been largely underestimated and casts serious doubt over the validity of the glyphosate reassessment report, which was published by the German authorities earlier this year in the framework of the revaluation process for this pesticide. This German report, which is currently being studied by the member states of the EU and EFSA, concludes that there was no risk to health, and it is even suggested that the acceptable daily thresholds for long-term exposure be raised. Yet there is “a huge problem, because residues from spraying are, for example, widely found in all sorts of food”, says Andreas Bauer Panskus, the author of the Testbiotech report. (AN)
