Court gives clear definition of “parody”

Brussels, 03/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - The “parody” of a protected work must display certain specific characteristics if the original work is to be used - as is provided for in the directive on copyright (2001/29/CE) - without the consent of the rights holders.

In addition, when the parody delivers a discriminatory message, the rights holder in the parodied work may demand that that work should not be associated with that message.
