Brussels, 22/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - The launch of two Galileo satellites, Doresa and Milena, went off without a hitch on Friday 22 August, having been postponed by one day due to unfavourable weather conditions.
At 14: 27 CEST on 22 August, the climate was more conducive for the launch above the Kourou station in French Guiana, using Soyuz launchers. The two satellites are now in orbit alongside four others, already forming the beginnings of the constellation of the European geo-navigation programme, Galileo.
Several more launches will follow over the next few years to complete this constellation of thirty satellites, all of them before the end of the decade. These will use Ariane-5 launchers recently ordered specifically for the European Galileo space programme. (MD)
