Brussels, 20/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - As the use of drones is becoming increasingly widespread in Europe, the European Commission is holding a consultation on this subject, with a view to presenting a legislative initiative at a later date.
The extensive range of potential applications of these aircraft systems raises issues about their impact on safety and security, as well as on respect for citizens' privacy. The European Commission intends to introduce new rules that would guarantee these essential rights without compromising the development of a new industry that is frequently in the hands of small start-up companies. The Commission will therefore be gathering points of view from stakeholders until 24 November, with regard to expected developments in the markets, problem solving and what political objectives should be set out.
