Brussels, 20/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is giving closer scrutiny to the issue of re-using water. It opened a public consultation on this subject on 5 August in an effort to collate the opinions of civil society and stakeholders regarding a practice that is still far from frequent in Europe.
Re-use would help us respond to the increasing problems of water scarcity and drought, while reducing the risk of contamination and lowering treatment costs.
The consultation is open until 7 November and the results will feed into an impact assessment covering all key aspects of water re-use, including agricultural, urban, industrial, and recreational uses. The Commission intends to present a proposal to encourage Europe to re-use waste water treated at a European level. (MD)
