Brussels, 19/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on 6 August that a full economic and trade agreement between the EU and Canada has been drafted.
The over 500-page legal document is currently being revised by the member states and the Canadian authorities and it is expected that it will be initialled in September ready for the EU-Canada Summit on 25 September. However, Germany is not happy about investment and the ISDS mechanism for settling disputes between countries and investors.
The agreement is often seen as a first stage in the process of creating a genuine transatlantic market. It is expected that the agreement will boost EU-Canada trade by more than 20%, generating extra income for the EU of more than €12 billion a year. (MD)
