28/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - Greek concerns about health of European banks. Greek Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis is reported to have expressed concerns to his European counterparts about the bank stress tests being carried out at European level, according to reports in the Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Monday 28 July. Kathimerini reports Hardouvelis as saying: “The Greek economy and its banking system have been under constant stress for the past four years to an unprecedented degree, and the European Central Bank intends to increase the pressure even further. If it insists, the risk is that it could bury the economy just when it appears to be stabilising”. He is concerned about the way the European Central Bank is refusing to take account of bank restructuring plans. (EL)
