Brussels, 14/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 10 July, the European Commission sent reasoned opinions (second stage of the infringement procedure) to Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg and Portugal, calling on them to ensure full implementation of the European directive facilitating the recognition of medical prescriptions established in other member states. This legislation is aimed at enabling chemists to better understand and provide prescriptions made out in other member states in the context of patients being able to exercise their cross-border healthcare rights. The countries targeted in this procedure have not transposed this directive into their respective national legislations, despite the fact that they had until 25 October last to do so. They have two months to inform the Commission of their intentions in this respect, failing which, they may be referred to the European Court of Justice. (IL)
