Brussels, 09/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 8 July, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn met Michel Lebrun, the newly elected president of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), who, at the end of June, took over from Ramon Luis Valcarcel, now an MEP.
Lebrun brought the Charter for Multilevel Governance with him, to which the Commissioner gave his support by signing it. This charter was presented in the spring, before the European elections and calls on newly elected delegates to improve the way in which the cities and regions are involved in the decision-making process. More than a hundred signatures have been added to the charter so far. Commissioner Hahn stated that implementation of regional policies by the local and regional authorities “is a prime example of the positive effect multilevel governance can have on people's lives”.
