Brussels, 19/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Enlargement and the stabilisation and association process as well as preparations for the European Council of 26 and 27 June are the main dossiers on the agenda of the General Affairs Council of Tuesday 24 June in Luxembourg. On the sidelines of the General Affairs Council, a Stabilisation and Association Council will be held at around 4.30pm between the EU and Montenegro.
The Council will discuss enlargement and the stabilisation and association process. The Council is expected to adopt conclusions on whether or not to grant Albania the status of EU accession candidate. At this stage, a number of countries have reservations about this prospect (see other article under External Action). On 4 June, the Commission recommended that Albania be granted this status.
Forthcoming European Council. The Council will examine draft conclusions ahead of the European Council to be held in Brussels on 26 and 27 June. Over lunch, the ministers will hold an exchange of views on this subject with President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy.
The General Affairs Council will also: - adopt the EU maritime security strategy; - debate the EU strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian region (see EUROPE 11103). (LC)
