Brussels, 16/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Annual inflation in the eurozone stood at 0.5% in May and 0.7% in April, while inflation in the EU28 stood at 0.6% and 0.8% in May and April respectively, according to figure released by the EU's statistics office, Eurostat, on Monday 16 June.
Negative annual inflation was recorded in Greece (-2.1%), Bulgaria (-1.8%), Portugal (-0.3%) and Cyprus (-0.1%) and zero inflation in Hungary and Slovakia. The highest annual inflation was in Austria (1.5%), Luxembourg (1.4%) and Romania (1.3%). Compared with April 2014, annual inflation fell in sixteen member states, remained unchanged in four and rose in seven.
The highest upward rises in prices in the eurozone were in tobacco and eating out (0.08%) and electricity (0.07%), and the greatest downward trend in prices in the eurozone was in vegetables (-0.13%), telecoms (-0.11%) and fruit (-0.07%). (MB)
