Brussels, 05/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 5 June, the G7 leaders called on Iran to resolve the outstanding issues on its nuclear programme issues, “including, critically, those relating to possible military dimensions”. In their joint statement, they also called for Iran “to cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency on verification of Iran's nuclear activities”.
Reaffirming their “strong commitment” to a diplomatic resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue and welcoming the efforts by the E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom and China, United States, Russia) and Iran to negotiate a solution, they underlined “the importance of the continuing effective implementation by the E3+3 and Iran of the joint plan of action” adopted on 24 November (see EUROPE 10995) and which runs until 20 July. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for 16-20 June.
The G7 also strongly urged Iran to fully respect its human rights obligations. They called on it to play a more constructive role in supporting regional security, “in particular in Syria”, and to reject all acts of terrorism and terrorist groups. (CG)
