22/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Screening of accession negotiation chapters finished. Montenegro has completed its screening process of the accession negotiation chapters, announced Peter Stano, the spokesperson for Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle, on Thursday 22 May. He said that this is an “important stage” in the accession process, and stated that the screening is an “important part of the process ahead of the real negotiations, the opening and closing of chapters”. “The screening process has allowed Montenegro to familiarise itself with the EU acquis and to identify gaps in the alignment of their own legislation with the European laws and norms”, said Stano. Montenegro's screening process began in March 2012 and negotiations were officially launched in June the same year. Nine negotiation chapters have already been opened and two provisionally closed.
