Brussels, 21/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 20 May, the Council and representatives from governments and member states, adopted a resolution on the structured dialogue process, including on social inclusion of young people. The structured dialogue with young people was introduced in November 2006. It seeks to develop a framework for joint reflection, as well as priorities, implementation and follow-up for European cooperation in the youth field. It has introduced a broad variety of young people and youth organisations to the multilevel consultations in member states, as well as EU youth conferences and the European Youth Week. The general thematic priority for European cooperation in youth affairs over the period beginning on 1 January 2013 and ending on 30 June 2014 was social inclusion. In its 18-month programme, the team consisting of three Presidencies (Ireland, Lithuania and Greece) set out the specific priorities in the general thematic framework. In 2013, the Irish Presidency focused on the contribution quality socio-educational youth work could bring to the development, wellbeing and social inclusion of young people; the Lithuanian Presidency emphasised improving the social inclusion of young people who were not employed, in education or training (NEETs). During the first half of 2014, the Greek Presidency oriented its work on strengthening the spirit of enterprise among young people, particularly social entrepreneurship and job creation. A debate on this theme was organised at the Youth Council, together with the adoption of the current resolution (see yesterday's article). (IL)
