Brussels, 23/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 24 April in Berlin, the European Commissioner for Education, Androulla Vassiliou, will launch the new programme for education, training, youth and sport, Erasmus+. Johanna Wanka, the Federal Minister of Education and Research will also be participating in this launch. Between 2007 and 2013, more than 380,000 students, young people, teachers, trainers and youth workers took part in the EU's former Lifelong Learning and Youth in Action programmes, which will now be part of the Erasmus+ programme. Over the next seven years, the European Commission estimates that 600,000 people will be able to benefit from the new programme in Germany. In 2014, Germany will receive almost €165 million under the Erasmus+ programme, an 11% increase on the amount obtained last year as part of the different EU programmes on education and youth. The amount granted to Germany is expected to increase every year until 2020. (IL)
