More manageable search engine for airline black list

Brussels, 10/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - It will now be easier to consult the black list of airlines that are banned from the EU thanks to a new tool launched online on Thursday 10 April. A search engine by country, airline or ICAO code now makes it possible to avoid consulting the menu of nearly 300 airlines and 20 countries (http://air-ban.europa.eu ). The black list was set up in 2005 and is a directory of all airlines that are banned from flying in European air space for reasons of safety. European travellers are therefore advised not to use these airlines. The black list was updated on 10 April on the basis of international standards. Swaziland's airlines have now been removed from the black list. European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas has elsewhere noted the efforts of African countries to improve their air safety - particularly Zambia, Mozambique, Sudan and Libya. Mauritania was the first country from Africa to be removed from the list, followed by Swaziland. The revision of the list also enables airlines from the Philippines, Cebu Pacific Air, and from Kazakhstan, Air Astana, to have access to European air space. Kazakhstan's other airlines, however, still remain banned from Europe. (MD)
