Brussels, 08/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - Energy Commissioner Gunter Oettinger says he is unhappy with the commitments made by Google to respond to accusations of abuse of its dominant position in the online search and publicity market. In an interview with Bild on Sunday 6 April, the Commissioner said that the “man responsible is Competition Commissioner Almunia, but in the end we have to agree with a majority of the Quorum of the decision. The previous proposal of Google is not enough in my opinion, by far. This is only a placebo solution. I am of the opinion, either Google puts forward a significantly improved proposal, or the Commission should launch a lawsuit against Google, as it has done in the past against other dominant groups”. In March, Joaquin Almunia told the European Parliament that he doubted that the arguments by the companies that had complained about Google would get him to change his view that the commitments were satisfactory. Several other commissioners are said to take Oettinger's line, including Internal Market Commissioner Michel Barnier (of France). (EL)
