SECTORAL POLICIES / (ae) transport

04/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - Right to overfly Kosovo reopens thanks to Hungarocontrol. The airspace of Kosovo reopens to civilian traffic on 3 April. NATO agreed for Hungary to make resources of Hungarocontrol available to Kosovo for air navigation. The air routes in the Western Balkans region will now be more direct and shorter, which is expected to bring about considerable savings. The Kosovar airspace is expected to be crossed by 180,000 civilian flights a year following this move. Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen described it as a successful example of regional cooperation which will bring about benefits for the entire Western Balkans region. (MD)
