The European Commission has approved applications for the inclusion of two new products on the list of protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). These are, from Italy, Miele Varesino honey (PDO), which is produced in the region of Varese. From Portugal, Requeijao da Beira Baixa (PDO), a dairy product obtained from the whey separated from the milk in the process of producing the PDO cheese Queijos da Beira Baixa. These names will be added to the list of more than 1,200 products already protected under the legislation on PDO, PGI and traditional specialities guaranteed. (LC)
