Culture must get more support

Brussels, 03/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - The cultural and creative sectors are at the heart of the digital revolution in Europe, but if they are to fully expand, the EU and member states must agree to make more of an effort to guarantee that appropriate conditions are created, as well as the necessary incentives, for this creativity to flourish. This will be the main message that Androulla Vassiliou, the European Commissioner for culture delivers on Friday 4 April when she takes part in the “Chaillot Forum” on the future of culture and Europe. This forum was organised in Paris by the French minister of culture and will debate the challenges created by the digital revolution and the prospects it offers in the areas of copyright, funding the creative sectors and the role of culture as a source of social integration. Michel Barnier, Commissioner for the Internal Market, will also participate in the debates, which will bring together EU culture ministers, political decision-makers and representatives from the enterprise and research communities, as well as NGOs.
