Brussels, 03/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström expressed her pleasure in a press release on Thursday 3 April that the visa exemption scheme for Moldovan nationals will soon come into force, after the Council and the European Parliament finalise their efforts and include Moldova on the “positive” list.
This amendment to Regulation 539/2001, establishing the list of third countries whose nationals are required to hold a visa to enter a member state and the list of those whose nationals are exempt from visa requirement, will come into force on 28 April. In future, Moldovan citizens will no longer need a visa to enter the Schengen area, requiring only to hold a biometric passport. The visa liberalisation dialogue with Moldova was launched in June 2010. (MD)
