Brussels, 24/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 22 February, the European Green Party (EGP) launched its campaign for the European elections by unanimously adopting its manifesto (45 party members).
Proposing a Green New Deal, the manifesto focuses on the creation of green jobs and sustainability. Social justice, the consequences of austerity policies, the authorisation of GM crops, and the social and environmental effects of the transatlantic trade and investment partnership agreement (TTIP) will be the EGP's main areas for action. The party has two candidates running in tandem to succeed José Manuel Barroso at the head of the European Commission - Ska Keller (Germany) and José Bové (France).
According to recent opinion polls, the representation of the ecologists in the future European Parliament could drop. For example, PollWatch recently put the European Left, led by Alexis Tsipras (Greece), in fourth position - behind the Liberals and ahead of the Greens. (SP/transl.fl)
