24/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Inflation stable at 0.8% in eurozone in January. Annual inflation stood at 0.8% in the eurozone in January 2014, according to figures released on Monday 24 February by the EU's statistical office, Eurostat. In the EU28, inflation stood at 0.9% in January, down from 1% in December. The highest inflation was recorded in the United Kingdom and Finland (both 1.9%), while prices fell in Cyprus (-1.6%), Greece (-1.4%) and Bulgaria (-1.3%). Prices remained unchanged in Slovenia and increased by 0.1% in Portugal, 0.2% in Lithuania and Sweden and 0.3% in the Czech Republic, Ireland and Spain. The largest upward impact on inflation came from tobacco, electricity and dairy products, while fuel for transport, telecommunications and heating oil had the biggest downward impact. (MB/transl.fl)
