ECONOMY - FINANCES - ENTREPRISES / (ae) competition

10/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: Manubeni-INCJ/AGS. On 10 February, the European Commission authorised the acquisition of joint control of the Portuguese company AGS-Administração e Gestão de Sistemas de Salubridade, S.A. (cleansing and distribution of water in Portugal and Brazil) by the Japanese groups Marubeni Corporation (which trades in a variety of sectors, including energy and infrastructure) and INCJ-Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (financial, technical and business support and investments in several sectors, including water supply). The Commission concluded that there were no competition problems, largely because the activities of the parent companies do not overlap. The operation, which was notified on 8 January of this year, was examined under the simplified merger review procedure. (FG/transl.fl)
