10/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Imports of rice from Bangladesh. At the meeting of the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) on Monday 3 February, the Greek Presidency presented a compromise text on the proposed regulation on imports of rice from Bangladesh. It obtained the agreement of the SCA, thereby giving it a negotiation mandate. This text basically aims to take account of the Treaty of Lisbon. The European Parliament voted on this text in December 2013. The Presidency is planning a single trialogue meeting, to be held this Tuesday 11 February, and hopes to reach an agreement with the EP at the meeting. If there is agreement, an extraordinary SCA will be held on the eve of the Agriculture Council of 17 February to enshrine the agreement and send a letter to the EP to prepare for a first-reading agreement.
