Strasbourg, 04/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 3 February, deploring the recent incidents in the Yemeni capital of Sana'a - an attack near the French embassy and the kidnappings of a British and a German national - the European Union urged the authorities of Yemen to investigate these incidents “without delay”. “The EU reiterates its concern about acts aimed at undermining or obstructing Yemen's transition process, and recalls in the strongest terms that the collaborative spirit of all stakeholders and a climate of security and inclusiveness is essential to the success of this transition”, said Michael Mann, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, in a press release.
A mortar bomb was fired in the direction of the French embassy in Sana'a during the night of 2-3 February - though it fell short - and a booby-trapped car exploded several hundred metres away. During the morning of 3 February, armed men were arrested in the diplomatic district, and a British and a German national were kidnapped on 31 January. (CG/transl.fl)
