07/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Europeans condemn terrorist attacks in Volgograd. On 30 December, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton “strongly” condemned the terrorist attack on a trolleybus in Volgograd the same day, which left 14 dead. The previous day, Ashton, like Presidents of the European Commission and European Council, José Manuel Barroso and Herman Van Rompuy respectively, had strongly condemned the first terrorist attack in Volgograd train station and had sent their condolences to the Russian people. Van Rompuy described this attack, which killed 17 people and left dozens of others injured, as “heinous”. “There can be no excuse for such crimes”, Ashton said, hoping that “all those behind the attack will be brought swiftly to justice”.
