€41 million to support reforms

Brussels, 06/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 20 December, the European Commission adopted a €41 million package for Armenia to support its agriculture, regional development and civil society. The funding comes as part of the European neighbourhood policy.

Out of the €41million, €25 million is intended to improve agricultural institutions, encourage the development of farmers' associations and improve access to more affordable food for Armenian citizens. The support aims to contribute to better living conditions in rural areas.

In addition, €10 million is to enable specific projects to be supported (for example, public-private partnerships, employment creation, and training of the labour force) to step up the economic development of Armenia's regions.

Finally, €6 million will be used to strengthen civil society, and the ability of civil servants in priority areas including the EU visa facilitation and re-admission agreements, and to facilitate Armenia's participation in EU programmes and cooperation with EU agencies. (CG/transl.fl)
